About Group Counseling
ThrivePointe offers groups lead by Jen Russell, LPC at our Liberty Center location. Jen specializes in working with kids and teens in a group setting. Read more below about the benefits of group counseling, group topics offered throughout the year, and how to contact Jen to get on the list.
Children benefit from group therapy by:
- learning specific strategies in a structured environment
- becoming aware that they are not alone in their challenges
- developing new tools for coping with their problems
- receiving professional guidance from a licensed child therapist
- getting support from their peers
- practicing skills in a small group setting
( ages: 5-8 and 9-12)
This group is designed for both chronic worriers as well as for children who show early signs of anxiety. Children struggling with separation anxiety or school anxiety are a perfect fit for this group.
Using cognitive behavior strategies, this group focuses on replacing irrational thinking beliefs with rational thinking. Participants will gain coping skills and techniques to apply to their worry thoughts. Families will leave each session with anew ideas and techniques to apply.
Social Thinking Groups
( ages 6-9, 10-13)
Many children need help learning friendship skills. Kids with ADHD, learning problems, giftedness, or developmental issues often have difficulty picking up these skills naturally. This social skills group teaches/coaches children to interact appropriately with their peers. Participants will learn how to navigate through peer relationships and apply social thinking concepts during their interactions. Each week a new social thinking concept will be taught, practiced, and discussed.
Divorce Support for Kids
(ages 5-8, 9-12)
Any child of a separated of divorced family is welcome to join this group. The group benefits children whose parents have recently gone through a separation or divorce as well as children whose families have been separated for a period of time.
Divorce support group for kids allows participants to realize they are not alone and that other families are going through similar situations as well. The group will focus on what divorce means, how to cope through difficult feelings and how to express their thoughts. Both art and play therapy techniques will be used.
Managing Angry Feelings
( ages 5-8, 9-12)
Managing anger well is a critical life skill for all of us to have. Children who quickly become angry benefit from learning techniques to calm down effectively.
This group focuses on teaching children the necessary coping skills to be able to ward off angry episodes. They will learn how to identify triggers, how to self-monitor and self regulate their feelings, and will feel empowered when they can cope with anger in a safe and healthy way. Group members will leave the sessions with tools and ideas on how to stop the “mad” from getting out of control.
Cost of Groups with Jen Russell
- $240 total ($30 per session)
- Credit Card only
- No insurance accepted
Each group meets one time a week for 8 weeks. A commitment of all 8 weeks is required, as each therapy session builds on the next. Group is 1 hour long (last 10 minutes for a group parent check in).
All groups are held at our Liberty Center location.
